Der Schauspieldirektor & Bastien und Bastienne
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
May & June 2018
Two delicious one-act comedies in which a pair of lovers tease and test their feelings for each other, and a pair of actresses battle it out to be the prima donna. These brilliant gems showcase Mozart’s gorgeous music and sense of playfulness. They work very well together bringing two engaging stories that will sit either side of an interval.
Bastien und Bastienne was one of Mozart’s earliest operas, written in 1768. Der Schauspieldirektor was written during a very creative period in Mozart's life, the same year he premiered Le nozze di Figaro, and just 5 years before he died.
Returning with a twist to their summer season, Pop-up Opera presented a special Mozart double bill with two entrancing one-act comedies showcasing Mozart’s inimitable style and sense of playfulness.
